I don’t know about you but when my cravings kick in it’s all I can think about ??♀️. I’ve been trying to understand my body more and figure out why I have certain cravings. There’s gotta be more to it right? When I want comfort food it stems from my mental health. Cravings? That’s a whole other story. This morning I stumbled upon this awesome information and I wanted to share it with you. Here are some example of why your body may be craving certain types of food:
If you find yourself craving chocolate, it could mean your body is low on Magnesium or Vitamin B.
Both of these are essential to your body’s daily functions, especially when it comes to being healthy. Vitamin B helps your body convert food into nutrients, so if you aren’t getting enough of it, you might notice some stubborn weight gain.
And magnesium is crucial for supporting bone health. Without enough magnesium in your body, you might notice joint stiffness or discomfort.
But chocolate isn’t the only craving you should pay special attention to…
A craving for salty foods is often a sign that your body is low on iron.
Iron is crucial in helping your body fight against fatigue. So if you’re noticing yourself craving salty foods frequently, and you also notice a tendency to feel tired during the day, it could be a lack of iron in your system.
If you’re craving greasy high-fat foods like burgers, your body may be in need of omega-3 fatty acids. These incredible compounds are responsible for a wide range of benefits. Omega-3s can help promote healthy brain health, fight against anxiety or depression, improve eye health, and maintain good cardiovascular function.
So, what should you do when one of these cravings strikes?
You shouldn’t ignore it. Instead, you need to offset these cravings… by eating the right foods which contain the nutrients your body is crying out for:
- For omega-3s, try walnuts, salmon, or avocados.
- To load up on iron, try leafy green vegetables, grass-fed beef, or beans instead of reaching for a bag of chips.
- And for those chocolate cravings, yogurt and nuts are a great source of Magnesium. And eggs, fish, and poultry contain potent amounts of Vitamin B.
As you can see, your body is an extremely complicated machine.
You may think you need a bag of salty chips or a chocolate bar, but really your body is asking for the healthy nutrients it needs to function.
